Description

My favorite peppers all fall into the bull’s horn” pepper variety. They are sweet and wide at the shoulder, narrowing to a point. They come in a variety of colors – starting green and maturing to their designated color.

They are thought to have been brought to the US from Italy. Sometimes they are even referred to as “Corno di Toro” peppers which translate to “Horn of the Bull.” Ironically, there is an actual Corno di Toro Pepper as well.

Of this type, my hands-down favorites are the Cornito Series: Cornito Giallo, Cornito Rosso, and Cornito Arancia. Cornito in Italian means horned. While the Rosso, Giallo or Arancia, refers to their color… red, yellow or orange respectively. They are about an inch to an inch a half shorter while a full inch thinner than their closely related counterparts. They were bred in the United States by Janika Eckert.

These peppers are overwhelmingly prolific, juicy, and sweet. We love them for stuffed peppers.  However, I can’t think of a wrong way to use them: fresh in salads, grilled, or even roasted. If you have a space in your garden, I would definitely add this to your must have list.
